Book Reading Party

Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit, book reading party went well. Each day was special with so many feelings revealed from audience, Melissa and I. It was so nice; we opened with prayer each day, thanks to Pastor James Kallappa. Helen Jim read from, Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit, for me; reading with such superiority. I was unsure how the Makah Tribe would take to me, writing a book. Well, so many of our ELDERS said, “Dawn, I’m PROUD of you for having the courage to write. We have had so many bad books written of the Makah People. And well it’s nice to have one written by a Native person who has lived amongst the Makah People. Maybe this will expose some truth of how we Makah Indians really live.” My book is a fictional story with some true lifestyle shared within (family dinners, football game, deer hunt, and the proud Makah Heritage). And YES it’s true; we as native people sure know how to have fun and live good lives.
I’m sad about the sales but I’ll just have to work hard on getting more sold; to different reservations. It well all workout; I’m sure. Our audience was small; due to it being Makah Days and so much going on.

Fawn's Dream

A dark shape wearing wavy clothing drifted swiftly

past Fawn, as if to be taunting her. The scene was
taking place in a very dark forest. She was protecting
a three-year-old child in her dream. Running through
the forest, Fawn found herself coming to the top of
a ridge with nowhere else to go. She could hear the
rustlings of the trees behind her and knew it was the
dark image getting closer to them. Fawn had to jump
into a rapidly moving river below so that they both
could live. The child and Fawn fell deep into the water
below. Oddly enough, it was as if the water had hands
and was fighting Fawn for the child too. She made it
back to the top of the water and drifted down the river,
clutching ever so tightly to the child. Just before getting
out of the water, it turned into a boiling hot river. Fawn
got out just in time with the child in her arms. She was
laying there on the riverbank, when her foot was hit
by a wave, and it was hot to the touch. It frightened
Fawn so.

This dream is a very important provision for Fawn! God gives her a clear perception on what well take place in her future.

More Native Authors....

Someone told me not long ago, “I think more people will be coming out of the woodwork.”
This person meant; after "Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit" comes out more Native American Authors will venture out into the writing world.
Well! All I've got to say is, “No venture, No gain! And I wish them GOOD LUCK, the more the merrier."
I know three other Makah people that have written a book/manuscript or have one in their near future. Melissa Peterson-Renault is one of those people, although she has written two books already. Melissa has plans to join me at the Makah Day - Book Reading/Signing gathering!
Somebody from Neah Bay asked me, “How do you go from (        ) to writing a book?”
Well I told her, "I didn’t plan on writing a book, it just happened! And that will be my answer to everyone that asks me that question.
If you have a desire to see something through, it will happen – great or not!
Just thinking out loud again!
