Second Edition!

A second edition can include a new cover, updates to chapters (up to 10,000 words), additional chapters (as long as it stays within 10,000 words), or all of the above!

A second edition can breathe new life into a book. It gets a new ISBN number and a new release date, which gives us a reason to reintroduce the book to distribution and to the media. Far more importantly, however, is that it gives you a chance to hit the reset button on building an audience.

Listed above is an Email message sent to me by my Marketing Agent. Please give me some feedback so that I can either add a new chapter or just add to each chapter. What would you like to see?

WORK HARD!

My writing has been extraordinarily a great gain in my life.
Although, most significant is that - I'VE FOUND GOD AGAIN!
Through writing my book; it helped me realize that I needed more.
And that was....GOD!

Monday, September 16, 2013

OUCH!

Our talents are a gift from GOD! When you find out your gift, DON'T GIVE IT BACK! Embrace it with everything you have, and teach by example! We have to live and learn. Please stop and listen to someone today, you might just learn something! My heart hurts tonight :( ... But I'm going to keep LOVING! Because, WHY? That's what GoD would want me to do, RIGHT?

Second Book...

I've been working on the second book.

Joseph the men in his family are out hunting. Fawn is at home arranging her baby's nursery. She walks outside with the bird cage. Fawn placed her pet on the back porch for fresh air, while she cleans up her house. Fawn walked by the window and much to her surprise a hawk sat on the railing. She walks out to chase it away; with a broom. The hawk wasn't moving...It was going to make a meal of her pet.

I'll share more as it comes about.

Not True...

I was reading an article about NATIVE people.
And man... I wish people would research their info before writing a NONFICTIONAL article.

The writer said, "NATIVE people are no longer involved in their culture; and that the culture is becoming nonexistent.”

Neah Bay was mentioned by making this statement, “Only the elders know the Makah Indian songs.”

 Well NOT true!

Our culture here in Neah Bay is STRONG, my three year old granddaughter can sing, Yes Jesus Loves Me, in the Makah Language.

We have dedicated teachers at ALL the schools located here in Neah Bay; who are teaching Makah Language and dance.

The Makah people are not trying to be INDIANs they are Proud Makah Natives. Neah Bay is and will always be one Nation to standout amongst others.

My book has some truth to it; the Native lifestyle is very much true. I moved here in the 70's and found that I really respect the Makah ways; Family, Love, Respect, and Brotherly concern for each other.

Just had to say….something.

My thoughts and Wishes

You know how we ask ourselves; What is my purpose in life?
Through "Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit" my fictional book; I feel that I'm on the correct path for my life.

I'm trying not to think, I'll never get the support that I need to get my book out to the public.

I feel that my book has a GOOD message, and has real life characteristics of Neah Bay. I pray to God asking him to take over and help me sell MANY books. I feel that my work in writing, editing, publishing, and marketing has some kind of purpose.

Please pray with me, because where two agree upon something here on earth, so will it be done in Heaven.  Ask God to make my book become a magnet to readers. And stores won't be able to keep up on the stock. I know I'm doing my part, and it never hurts to ask for help, right?

Email from Tate's

Thanks Dawn for this email. I will make that change, and get the files loaded, and when I do I will let your marketing rep know so they can continue getting things set up! Thanks, and let us know if you need anything else.

Hope you had a great 4th!

Tate's Publishing Co. has treated me so VERY good. Typos are being made at no cost to me!

Two days ago I spoke with a customer on the Big Salmon Fishing Resort's deck. He said, "Dawn I read your book." I asked, "So what did you think?" "I liked it, and are you writing again?" "Yes, I have started a second book. I'm so happy that you liked my fictional book." "I like to read nonfictional books but this one I liked reading. I'm working on a book myself, and I'm proud of you for being published!" "Thanks."

It was rather nice have that conversation in front of my husband of 30 years.

Although we have Jesus that did the ultimate sacrifice for us all, right!
Have a great time with our family members and/or friends, don't forget to pray!

10,000 - WOW!

The number 10,000 hits to this blog page, WOW!

I remember went I had no hits at all; I was sad.
But now it's very encouraging to see...almost 10,000 hits on my BlogSpot!
Tell a friend to visit...let's get to that number :)

I only wish that 10,000 books would sell. It's considerably hard to sell books, so I'm finding out.

If you're a student, parent, teacher, mother, or grandparent PLEASE help me!
How you ask?
Tell your boards of education, "Let's see about getting a new book into our schools curriculum."
Mention that, Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit, has Native American topics involved.
It could open some doors to the curious person; whom would like to know more about Indians.
Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit, is fictional.
Although, it has plenty of truth about how we live here in Neah Bay, WA.

Look for the hardcover book, SOON!

Hardcover Books...NEXT!

Travis King a marketing rep at Tate's Publishing, CO. Helped me by DROPPING all cost on making final CORRECTIONS! Wow, thank you so much Travis. Having a great team at my side; it means the world to me. I'm happy that the corrections are made before the hardcover books come out. Barnes and Noble book stores and Amazon.com will sell the hardcover books too.

It's not a walk in the park...(or ocean) to write, publish, and market a book! But it is FUN :)

Cards & Phone Messages

I had a normal day at work today. After I completed my shift at Big Salmon Fishing Resort, I checked mail. Much to my surprise I received a handwritten card. It was my fifth card that I've opened from a grateful customer. It was a “thank you” card, for writing my book, Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit. Truly I appreciate each card.

A month ago, a reader left me a cell phone message. He said, “The book fell into my hands, and I think your message is great.” I'm happy that people find it an interesting read.

It's hard to say...But some people try to pull you down. Don't listen, go forward, and fulfill a dream. Don't let someone tell you, "You can do that." I'm not a graduate from a college or have taken writing classes. I'm just a person that pressed forward with something, and completed a task.

My book is something; I'll always have as an accomplishment.

~Dawn~
P.S. Keep the cards and calls coming, it's very much appreciated!
This winter I'm going to work on the second book :)

Hard Back Books-NEXT

As you may know, your contract called for the release of the paperback book into distribution, and until recently, a 1000 book purchase from the author had been required to release a hardcover version of your book into distribution (Amazon, bookstores, bn.com, etc.).

But now we have great news, and we can release the hardcover into distribution without the minimum purchase of 1000 hardcover copies! If you are interested in finding out how you can have your book released as a hardcover version into distribution, please contact me. I have a couple of different options we can discuss to make sure both the hardcover and softcover versions become available, and I'll be glad to discuss the details with you.

You can get the hardcover into distribution one of two ways. Pay a one-time $500 distribution fee. OR order 250 copies (they can be soft or hard cover or a mix) and we will put your hardcover into distribution for free.

This is my next step! Hard Cover, that is something that I like in a book.
Please place an order to help me get the book into DISTRIBUTION for free.

My Email is dawnleelawrence@gmail.com

After the hard cover, I'm going to start working on the second book. So help me out by placing an order today!

Shoalwater Bay

I was honored; to have my husband Joey and my son Anthony accompany me to Shoalwater Bay. Thank you to my Brother-In-Law and councilman Michael J. Lawrence for allowing us to borrow his Indian Song! Anthony danced and Joey and I sang, it was hard but we did okay.

I met a wonderful lady named Linda R. Rose. I left feeling as if I met a new friend. Linda you are a great host and I truly appreciate all that you did to make the reading a success. Take care.

Also I had one tribal leader attend my reading his name is Tom G. Anderson. Thank you, it was nice to have met you and the young lady who came with you. I was proud that she asked me about Makah Whaling. Young people don't know it but they truly can lead us adults. The young lady was about 15 or 16 years of age. She said, "Her class was being taught about the Makah whaling." I hope that her school teacher shares both sides of the story.

Linda R. Rose also informed me that I should be paid to do book reading parties. So I'm going to take her advice and start charging for my services. Thank you Linda for the kind words, "You have a great story to share. And YES you should be paid for your services."

Sequim and Port Angeles

March 2, 2013

Yesterday I was in Sequim, WA doing my local residential business; grocery shopping, truck maintenance and promoting my book. Representation has been made in the Olympia, Washington area. And now I’m going to target Sequim and Port Angeles, WA.  In the Pacific Mist Bookstore located in the heart of Sequim; a very nice lady named, Vickie Maples - Independent Bookseller, took four books from me! Please drop by the Pacific Mist in downtown Sequim; to purchase my book. Or just drop by; it is well worth the time to visit this pleasant store.

At the Elwha Gallery & Gift shop located in Port Angeles, WA – 401 E. First Street. I spoke with a considerate young lady named Tamara Luce. She was so welcoming and friendly. Come to find out through our conversation her dad is Joe Luce from Elwha. Tamara Luce mentioned that her uncles are Brian and Russ Svec from Neah Bay. Well I know all of Tamara’s family that she mentioned! Job well done Joe, Brian, and Russ you all have a great young lady in your family.

I’m hopeful that Suzie Bennett can schedule a book reading at this attractive gallery.

Check back here - if Suzie Bennett can make it happen; I’ll post it here and on Facebook.com/1dawnlawrence

Meeting New People

Tonight, I'm thinking about all the GREAT people that crossed my path.

Through this book called, Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit. I have met so many unique people at book reading parties. I'm reading a book called, Tubal Cain by Hal Burton. I met Hal Burton at the Little Creek Casino's Christmas Bazaar. A great lady named Ruth Whitener whom is a tourism coordinator. Ruth works for the Squaxin Island tribe and carries herself with a great amount of pride. Faith who works for the Nisqually Tribal Library was a blessing to have met. Faith has a soft~spot in her heart for the Native People. I could feel that right away, it's something I can do...read people well.

And now I have a college student that I've been emailing. Her name is Rhonda and a great person to have in your corner. My tribe Neah Bay has given support too...and I'm so appreciative for those people as well. You know who you are :)!

A special thanks to Rob Moss and his children! Thank you for dancing and singing the Claplanhoo songs.

Feeling gifted tonight while I think of everyone I've met along the way!

Squaxin Island

Fabulous turnout at the Squaxin Island Museum!

The most books that I’ve sold in one reading, thanks Ruth for the invite.

It was a respectful group of around 20 to 30 people. Rob Moss and three of his children attended this book reading. Rob and his group sang two songs and Robert his eldest son danced to one song. The dancing was a blessing everyone truly appreciated the performance.

Now I’m going to have to start working at our fishing resort. Big Salmon Fishing Resort opens April through September. I’m in the office taking phone calls and booking charter boat trips (1-866-787-1900).

Please check back here, I’ll keep you updated on my next book reading party.

Nisqually .. next Orca Book and Squaxin Island Museum

Nisqually was great! Good people and a great meal was shared. The children at this reading seemed to enjoy the reading. And the Nisqually people really showed me much respect. A group from NW Indian College attended the gathering, a teacher gave great reports. She suggested I share my story at each gathering ( to encourage others ).
Next reading will be at Orca Book Store in Olympia this coming Saturday 2pm to 4pm please come listen; I need the support!
After the Orca Book Store I'm going to the Squaxin Island Museum WITH Makah Dancers and Singers! I'm so PROUD of the people that have committed time out of their lives to help me out. That is how Makah people ARE. All we have to do is ask and SOMEONE steps up to the request!

Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit

In the heat of the battle, Fawn is rendered unconscious but manages to find herself in the spirit world, able to fight Nicolai Vain's dark power. Will she survive and fight in the spirit realm?

Here is a picture of a hut here in Neah Bay that inspired Jaynee's hut.
You'll find this hut on the road out to the Shi-Shi beach trail.
