Why must we hurt?

We are humbled by hunger, and then fed with manna. Our ancestors were not acquainted to such food nor are we. God did this to tell us ALL; we don’t live on bread alone.

My heart is healing tonight, feeling thralled….What is my lesson in this, GOD?

(Hunger can be replaced with any word that you are troubled with.)

Something....left behind.

Someone asked me once, "How do you feel about getting published?"

I answered that person, "I thought about that question. My best answer is, 'After I'm gone at least I'll have something for my family. Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit will be on a bookshelf in somebodies home.'"

I have always been the person to listen to people talk in the group. I surround myself with people like that; I don't really feel that I have too much to offer. When it comes to everyday conversations. Through this book I was able to express some of my thoughts. It is a fictional book but I believe in a good lifestyle; that is shared.

If you read the book PLEASE tell your family and friends to purchase it and share it as well.

Enough

These Tragedies Must End!

My thoughts are with the parents and community of the Sandy Hook school dist.
Also with the people that have trouble throughout the Holidays.
Parents, Sons, Daughters, Brothers, Sisters, Grandparents, Aunts, and Uncles that are separated due to a quarrel keeping them apart.
And the people whom have had someone die in the family during the holiday.

My heart is heavy today.

My comprehension in all this is that a spiritual battle is taking place. God will overcome!
Don't forget that God is the reason for the season, it is Jesus's birthday.

Pray for a hedge of protection upon our people today.

Attending an Indian Party!

Today I'm attending a community Indian Party here in Neah Bay at our local hall. There will be a meal shared by all that attend, Indian songs and dance, a lot of laughter, some tears, and so much pride. The celebration is for Gina's 10th year remission and her grandfather’s 70th birthday. The meal was great, and now I'm off...to watch some great Indian dancing. In my book you read about our Makah Indian Parties. They are truly impressive...let me know what you thought about the Indian party portion of, Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit.

Just off the Olympia Mall road a building number 1530 is the address to a Barnes & Noble Book Store. I dropped in for a second attempt to have them carry my book, Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit. Well, it paid off. They will carry two books at a time; once they sell two more will be re-ordered. I'm so happy! The Museum here also gave me an invite to do a book reading/signing party...I just have to pick a date and time. Thank you Ruth (she works at the museum).

Potlatch Fund was ...

November 3, 2012 the Potlatch Fund Gala was fun.

I met some new people; Andrea Alexander had a great group of people at her table.

Ms. M. Parker was honored at the Gala as was Andrea Alexander.

Andrea Alexander was the person that founded the Potlatch Fund.

The only thing that was not good was that I was too late to donate my books and fishing trips.

But I did see my family donated beautiful pieces of artwork for the, Silent Auction.

John Smith donated a pretty canoe paddle with an Indian and Whale painted upon it.

Next book signing will be at the Nisqually Library. But if something happens before then I'll post it right here.

Potlatch Fund

Saturday November 3, 2012 the Potlatch Fund Gala will take place. This Gala is held once every year, established and organized in 2002.
Potlatch? A Chinook word used by NW Coastal Tribes that means "To Give" or "A Gift."
Andrea Alexander a Makah Native invited me to this Gala. Andrea was very much involved in this gathering in 2002. She may have founded the Potlatch Fund Gala (not sure).
Well I'm donating 2 books and 2 Ebooks. Also from Big Salmon Fishing Resort a charter boat trip. The anglers will have to choose 1 of 2 trip; 2 people on a salmon charter or 1 person on a halibut charter. This was gifted by Joey Lawrence president of Big Salmon Fishing Resort, LLC.
Also I was invited to the Nisqually Library to do a book party Jan. 29, 2013 5:30 to 7:00 pm. So mark that NEW CALENDAR.

Barnes & Noble

The Barnes & Noble book store has my book back on their website. But it is listed at $96.58 per book?

I sent an Email today asking them to make that correction. The book should be listed at $14.99 per book.

Man I hope you all make a purchase off the Barnes & Noble book stores website. I know they are truly a professional book store. I'm sure it was not intentionally done, they must make mistakes once or twice a year.

It is hard selling books but with your help we can make it a well-known book. By demand we can get it into the book stores.

Today a Ms. Pera called me from the Chinook Pharmacy & Variety store in Forks, WA.

She asked for my publishing company. I told her Tate's Publishing Co. and gave her my marketing person’s phone number. Ms. Pera is also interested in a book reading party to be held at the Chinook Pharmacy store.

I'll keep you updated on the outcome.

Thank you for purchasing, Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit, my newly published book.

P.S. Maybe by-word-of-mouth we can get the book into the hands of the reading people.

Good Reviews

Today on Facebook I got a fantastic review from a Pastor of the Assembly of God church.

He said that he recommends for all to pick up the book and read it. It's Worth Reading.

I truly appreciated the remark that this man made about, Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit.

But I'm quite mad that Barnes & Noble book store removed it from the internet. So if you would like to purchase a book just purchase one through me.

WRITE A REVIEW!

On the Barnes and Noble Website you can write a review!

The more people that talk about, Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit. Then we build a "Demand" for, Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit! Therefore the book is brought to the book stores attention.

Also "IF" you purchase the book online the better the "Demand." If you do so; it will be on the shelves! I'm learning this as we go along here. And it's "FUN!"

So let's show them some "NATIVE PRIDE" and get this "NATIVE BOOK" on the shelves for all to read :)

Visit the link listed here and write a "REVIEW."
OOOH Yes, and make a purchase :) Christmas is just around the corner.

It was great!

Dancing, Drumming, and Singing was the theme at LaPush, WA.
I truly appreciated the fact that I was asked to attend this, "Drum Practice."
Sold some books too.

On the Barnes & Noble website I did a search and couldn't find my book?
I don't understand but it was on the website October 16, 2012.
To inform my marketing person at Tate's Publishing; copied and pasted the exact wording from the reply I received from Barnes & Noble.
I hope he can get this fixed soon.

From chapter - Joseph TaHayYasib Miller

Page - 150

"Joseph thought, If only I accepted the Tamanawis power, great-Grandfather Frank would be here."

We as the human race loss people that we love all the time whether it is by death, divorce, or disappearing. It's always the heart-ache that we must deal with that destroys us. Our mind, body and spirits can become ash and blow away in the wind. Our only hope is to have someone come help us along the way.

"Moments"

I read and answered something on Twitter yesterday and I’m going to share it here.

Q. “Writers, do you know how to create "moments" so you don't bore your readers?”

A.  Meaning? “The Tamanawis spirit waits like a black leopard on the highest plateau of the Neah Bay village. Throbbing beats pulsate in its throat in anticipation for a victim to call upon its name. Tamanawis lingers and glances ever so slyly toward the village ready to pounce: like a scorpion’s tail would strike, filling its unfortunate target with poison.

I think that is what the writer meant! What do you think? Is my ANSWER written as a moment?

Tomorrow...Brighter Day:)

Holding my breath; I've always felt second best. Never good enough, the only things that I feel proud of; are my three sons and now my two granddaughters!

So please don't think that I'm bragging when I make posts. The intentions are to promote my book. So my family (Sons and Granddaughters) can be proud of their Mom and Grandmother.

One of my most liked movies, 28 Days, makes me cry when I watch it....

Gwen: [Breaking down] I'm sorry I make it impossible for you to love me.

Lily: [Consoling her] Oh, Gwen, you make it impossible for me not to love you.

I guess that I'm just feeling sad today, sorry.

But tomorrow will be brighter; Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit, will be in the Bigger book stores. Brighter-Days ahead!

Sent message to, Northwest Indian News.

A Ms. Cleary from Northwest Indian News made a request of me yesterday; after I talked with her on the phone. She said, "Could you send me an excerpt from, Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit?" So I sent an Email with this wording to her; for her to share with others as well.

When strange things begin happening on the Makah Reservation in Neah Bay, Washington. Fawn and Dennis Miller suspect an evil spirit is leading Nicolai Vain down a dangerous path. When Dennis and Fawn's son, Joseph TaHayYasib Miller, becomes Nicolai's target, they prepare for an epic battle, with the world's fate hanging in the balance.

Joseph gathers his friends, otherwise known as the Star Fire Crew, to capture Nicolai and banish his spirit. But when Nicolai's powers transform their Makah Indian friends into devilish henchmen known as Pook Men, Joseph and the Star Fire Crew find themselves in trouble.

In the heat of the battle, Fawn is rendered unconscious but manages to find herself in the spirit world, able to fight Nicolai Vain's dark power. Will she survive and fight in the spirit realm? Will Joseph and the Star Fire Crew succeed in stopping Nicolai Vain and the Pook Men? Or will the world fall into Nicolai's malevolent hands? Find out in Dawn Lawrence's suspenseful and adventurous story, Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit.

Chapter - Becoming a Total of Three

The ferryboat landed after a smooth sailing across the Straits of Juan De Fuca. Nicolai and Shane had been the first car off the ferry, and they pulled over to wait. Shane was aware of what the young man would be driving. So they watched.
Shane said, "There he is, boss."

Above a fregment of the book.

Yesterday I visited the Little Creek Casino in Shelton, WA. I met a lady named Sheila, she is the Retail Supervisor of the gift shop. Sheila was so supportive and purchased the most books yet. Thanks! Little Creek Casino for making that book purchase.

Portion of the book - Chapter - Somebody Will Die

Page 228

A lightning bolt broke overhead, and the water became even rougher.

Nicolai was making this happen, for he thought, Joseph is a human, and he can’t last long in this weather. Nicolai swam right for Joseph in a very large wave. His intention was to force Joseph to land. Joseph could see him coming in the wave, but he was exhausted. Nicolai would have to get Joseph up to land, change himself back into the frilled lizard, and then spit into Joseph’s mouth some of his Tamanawis power to fulfill the evil prophecy.

Joseph couldn’t move anymore and became very discouraged. So he prayed with much doubt, “God, have you forsaken me?”

Joseph TaHayYasib Miller thought, I am going to die by letting this water immerse within my lungs rather than let Nicolai Vain strengthen his Tamanawis powers!

He stopped swimming. He started to sink to the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.

Sleepless in Neah Bay :)

Last night I couldn't sleep. It was as if I was being bothered by something; I hate nights like that!

When I have nights; like last night. I was told to pray for my family, so I did.

Then I sat up in bed and started to read. I've been reading a book that I purchased off the internet, The Dovekeepers. It's a good read but really hard for me to keep reading. I get busy and don't pick it up again for a long time. It has some similarities to my story but the author’s characters are from the Middle East. I'm finding that the Middle East people have some same beliefs as Native American people.

The other books that I really enjoyed reading was THE MARK series.

Soul Harvest,

The Indwelling,

Apollyon,

Assassins,

Nicolae,

Tribulation Force

And Left Behind.

I love reading books with religion involved and it has to be a heartfelt meaning.

Like the book, The Help.

Well - I hope you all have been enjoying, Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit.

Book Reading?

I have contacted the, Elwha Heritage Center, yesterday. And Lisa told me that the September 28, 2012 reading has not yet been set. So at this time; I don't have a date for you to come and join in this, book reading party. As soon as I do get a confirmed date, I'll post it here.

I'm going to read from the Preface, Introduction, Celebrations, Chaos Was Everywhere and They Stood in Awe.

Reading from these chapters of, Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit, will introduce myself to the audience. Also bring to their attention the family life of Fawn and her family. Reading from the chapter, Chaos Was Everywhere, will bring out the Pook Men. I plan on bringing a Pook Man mask for the audience to see and enjoy. They Stood in Awe will leave everyone feeling good about the book.

Wish me good luck! I'm looking forward to this book reading party. It's going to be the first time that I'm going to reading in front of a big crowd :)

LOVE IS ....

You Know Someone/Something Loves You; WHEN
She was thinking, Come on where are they? My heart is faint and it’s getting harder to breathe. Soon fatal heart, soon. Good I can hear the truck coming, finally here they come. If I could, I would run to the road to greet them. I’ll sit here and maybe they will help me into the house, knowing I don’t feel well.
We get out of the truck and greet the poor little thing standing at the foot of the steps. We notice that she is panting and doesn’t look well at all. So we call her inside to sleep indoors; an everyday event.
She was thinking, Okay, One step at a time. One, Two, Three, Four -  I did it!  She thought  as she walked ever so slowly toward the laundry room door. My people love me, as do I love them! Good night for the last time. My heart is going to stop now, I will miss taking care of you and our land.

Today my heart is heavy once again, I won’t see my precious little Angel run to greet us ever again. Rest and you have done a great job taking care of us and the land. She waited for Joey and I to get home before she passed away :/
Love is....Everywhere just take a look around!

I'm working on feeling better :/
It has been like the tide of a river in my life lately; the Tsoo-Yess river comes in and goes out. And that is what it’s been like for me lately. The sales have come to a halt and my health has made me staying at home more then I like. In February the Dr. at the Sophie Trettivick’s Clinic told me I have R.A. (Rheumatoid Arthritis). The sad thing about this …is that I can’t do what I like to do; WORK HARD.

My next book reading will be September 28, 2012 at 5:00 pm-ish in Port Angeles, WA. Other authors will be attending this reading at the Elwha Heritage Center. I’m trying to look forward to it; I just hope I don’t have an episode – R.A.

B2B Tacoma Conventional Center

Friday, September 7, 2012 I attended a great meeting held at Tacoma, WA. It was a great opportunity to hand out some business cards. At this event I handed out Neah Bay Chamber of Commerce brochures, Big Salmon Fishing Resort brochures, and sold 25 books. It was so fun meeting other native people with native owned businesses. My next reading will be at Elwha Heritage Center September 28th, 2012 at 5:00 pm ish. Mark your calendar, these book reading/signing parties are so much fun! And it's a great way to meet new people. I was told that Native People support Native People...so come on prove them right. Come to the Elwha Heritage Center and have a great time, you might enjoy yourself!
If you could please.. place a comment for others to read. Tell them what you liked or disliked about, Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit.

Quote

A good leader, doesn't loss his solid~ground. But stays the same throughout his term in leadership.

"A house is made of walls and beams;
a home is built with love and dreams."
-- Unknown

Yesterday I watched Michelle Obama on television and I loved that she said,
"And I didn't think it was possible, but today, I love my husband even more than I did four years ago," she said, "even more than I did 23 years ago, when we first met."

"Barack knows what it means when a family struggles... Barack knows the American Dream because he's lived it," she said.

Family is the one thing that is VERY IMPORTANT and we need to uplift each other.

NEW BOOK READING PARTY!

A book reading party is in the works! In September (this month) I'll be reading from, Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit. Sonya invited me to read from my book at the, Elwha Heritage Center. I haven't yet received a date and time but I'll post it here as soon as possible.

I'm working on finding a portion to read from, Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit, for the Elwha Heritage Center . Truly I haven't read from my book at these Book Reading Parties. Helen read for me at the Makah Day Book Reading Party, and it was appreciated! But this will be the first time I'll be reading to the listening audience. Yay :/ ... like I said before, "I have a fear of reading in front of people!" But I'm going to do this :)...baby steps.

If you are in the Port Angeles, WA area, please come to this reading! It sure would be nice to see a large group!

Book Reading Party

Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit, book reading party went well. Each day was special with so many feelings revealed from audience, Melissa and I. It was so nice; we opened with prayer each day, thanks to Pastor James Kallappa. Helen Jim read from, Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit, for me; reading with such superiority. I was unsure how the Makah Tribe would take to me, writing a book. Well, so many of our ELDERS said, “Dawn, I’m PROUD of you for having the courage to write. We have had so many bad books written of the Makah People. And well it’s nice to have one written by a Native person who has lived amongst the Makah People. Maybe this will expose some truth of how we Makah Indians really live.” My book is a fictional story with some true lifestyle shared within (family dinners, football game, deer hunt, and the proud Makah Heritage). And YES it’s true; we as native people sure know how to have fun and live good lives.
I’m sad about the sales but I’ll just have to work hard on getting more sold; to different reservations. It well all workout; I’m sure. Our audience was small; due to it being Makah Days and so much going on.

Fawn's Dream

A dark shape wearing wavy clothing drifted swiftly

past Fawn, as if to be taunting her. The scene was
taking place in a very dark forest. She was protecting
a three-year-old child in her dream. Running through
the forest, Fawn found herself coming to the top of
a ridge with nowhere else to go. She could hear the
rustlings of the trees behind her and knew it was the
dark image getting closer to them. Fawn had to jump
into a rapidly moving river below so that they both
could live. The child and Fawn fell deep into the water
below. Oddly enough, it was as if the water had hands
and was fighting Fawn for the child too. She made it
back to the top of the water and drifted down the river,
clutching ever so tightly to the child. Just before getting
out of the water, it turned into a boiling hot river. Fawn
got out just in time with the child in her arms. She was
laying there on the riverbank, when her foot was hit
by a wave, and it was hot to the touch. It frightened
Fawn so.

This dream is a very important provision for Fawn! God gives her a clear perception on what well take place in her future.

More Native Authors....

Someone told me not long ago, “I think more people will be coming out of the woodwork.”
This person meant; after "Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit" comes out more Native American Authors will venture out into the writing world.
Well! All I've got to say is, “No venture, No gain! And I wish them GOOD LUCK, the more the merrier."
I know three other Makah people that have written a book/manuscript or have one in their near future. Melissa Peterson-Renault is one of those people, although she has written two books already. Melissa has plans to join me at the Makah Day - Book Reading/Signing gathering!
Somebody from Neah Bay asked me, “How do you go from (        ) to writing a book?”
Well I told her, "I didn’t plan on writing a book, it just happened! And that will be my answer to everyone that asks me that question.
If you have a desire to see something through, it will happen – great or not!
Just thinking out loud again!

Please keep in mind that “If” you purchase a book from me, I’ll get a bigger profit. Although, I don’t want to hinder you from making a book purchase; I placed my order and will have books in eight business days.
I talked to Travis my “Marketing Person” yesterday, he said, “Dawn, you have already made sales! This is good for just bringing out your book.”
I’ve worked hard on getting the word out – When you make a purchase “PLEASE” tell a friend or two; by word-of-mouth we can get this book into the readers hands…And I’m told that the hard work has just begun.
A Book Reading/Signing will be held throughout Makah Days on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Makah Museum. I’ve invited my sisters from Tacoma and the surrounding area and they said, “I’m coming!”
Thank you for making a book purchase…and I’m going to work on selling more!

I'm home!

I’m glad to be home; we went on a vacation to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary.
I met a very interesting person; sitting by the pool. She was a pretty lady with red hair and a natural graying patch at her forehead. Religious, knowledgeable, sincere, and very prudent is how I’m going to describe, Rose. She spoke of how the “Indigenous People” had been wrongfully treated. She was very knowledgeable of the history; that she referred to as “Indigenous People.”
I have heard a family member use these words often - (Indigenous People: belonging to a place – natural or inborn.)
I found myself in tears to know that Rose acknowledge the cruel manner that the Indians had to endure.
I’m thankful that I finished this PROOF and sent it off, TODAY. My book will remind us that we have a very strong family UNIT and we will try to carry this on, THROUGHOUT ETERNITY. DESPITE THE OBSTACLES THAT MIGHT TRY TO DESTROY OUR FAMILY TIES!

Perhaps by Mid-August, "Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit" should be completed.

People are asking my sons, "So what is this book about, the one your mom wrote?" My sons have to say, "I don't know." Sorry but only three people have read this book ... Pete, Rose, and now Monica. It's going to be a surprise for my entire family.
Something new!

Hooky-Bobbing

"It's snowing." Fawn said it like she was hypnotized by its beauty.
The family ran to the window and enjoyed it for a short moment before Grandma Hillary said, "Come back to the table. It will be there when you get done eating your supper."
Frank said, "I want to try the hooky-bobbing. I hear that it is a lot of fun! I asked Daniel after hearing some guys talking about hooky-bobbing. Daniel said, 'Hooky-Bobbing is a truck pulling a sled full of passengers.' It sounds exciting."

Here is a small fraction/portion of my book this happens the night Dennis and Fawn fall in love.

First Reading - good experience.

A good crowd turned out at Mike and Andrea Alexander’s home for the, “Green Tee Golf Fundraiser.”
My first actual book reading went well. I was a guest at this dinner and promoted three different businesses/organizations that I’m a part of; Chamber of Commerce, Big Salmon Fishing Resort, and author of, “Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit.” It was good practice for me; I did well up until it was my turn to read from my book. I’ve always had a fear of reading in front of people. But after a young man from Neah Bay gave me a pat on the back for support the words came out. But it was good to have so many people ask me when the book will be ready to purchase. I hope by the end of July or early August the book will be on the bookshelf ready to sell.
My son Michael helped me by handing out business card. This really helped because the people had been looking at him and not at me. My dad was there and that made a big difference in my courage, I wanted to make him proud. Two of my nieces brought over food and their husbands cooked fish on a stick. Melissa Peterson-Renault read from her book, she should have them both ready to sell soon as well.
ALL IN ALL -- it was good experience, I’m happy I took part.

Yesterday...

Yesterday, I got the very first printed BOOK! It was great to see it...although, I still see misspellings and/or typos. I don't understand that, I thought that is what the EDITOR was to do? But I have to read it again and then send off my approval. After that, the book "Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit" is ready! Look back here for an Email purchase right here on this BlogSpot. Hope you are all having a great night.

But WAIT! I got the book through my Email and the PROOF reading book should be sent out within seven days. ONE MORE READING, so they say. "Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit" should be ready no later then August, 2012.
I'm off to do more reading, please wish me GOOD LUCK!

First Book Reading - June 30, 2012 - 7:00 pm

A group of us are getting together in Mountlake Terrace for a FUNDRAISER called, “Green Tee-Golf Tournament.”
My husbands cousin invited me to read a few paragraphs from my book. I’m going to read the “Preface”, “Introduction”, a part from the “Pook Men” chapter, also a small glimpse of the “Wedding” that takes place.
My plan is to have a “Pook Man” mask at the gathering so others understand what it looks like. Also this will help keep the guests eyes off of me as I’m reading. I’m gathering up all my courage for this and it will be great practice for me.
If you are interested in attending, please send me an Email so I can give you some details.    dawnleelawrence@gmail.com
Today a song keeps playing in my head, “Amazing Grace.” Sometimes I think that people might be thinking that I’m crazy for thinking that I can write a book. Well, here is something for you all to think about, “I was not gifted in my schooling, and I struggled. But through God’s grace he cleared my mind so that I could understand his WORD (the bible). I read through his WORD four times, and loved finding out more about HIM. I learn something new every day, and hope to learn so much more. I'm self-taught in running a business (Big Salmon Fishing Resort), building websites, making a blog, my hobby - quilting, and now writing. You can do it too!

Still waiting for my first book to PREVIEW

The publishing company said that they would notify me as soon as they send out my first printed book. Well I’m still waiting.
The next step in this very long process is; the publishing company will send the very first printed book to me for preview. I have to read it again one more time to check for any changes that I would like to see before selling, “Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit”
Tonight I was graced by my newest granddaughter’s presence; I babysat her for the first time. She was so precious tonight as she slept she began to make a very peaceful almost sighing sound. We laughed her parents hadn’t heard her do this before; it was almost like a little kitten making a purring sound. She was just happy that her grandma Dawn was sending her LOVE.
My book talks of such things; everyday blessings that take place and we forget to take time to be thankful for.

Received LAYOUT

A Layout of my book was received today, through my email address.
It looks great!
I’m not happy with the size of the chapters but I told myself, It’s my first book, learn from the mistake.
Details: 240 pages, awesome pictures of the book cover as headers for each new chapter, nice font to make thoughts standout and so much more.
I need to send a picture to the company to place above my dedication. It’s just one more step to being ready, and I can’t wait.
P.S. My baby granddaughter came a week or two early and she is BEAUTIFUL!

Picture for the back of book

A Mr. Ernst-Ulrich Schafer from Port Angeles, WA took quite a few pictures of me a week ago. I'm going to purchase two more for future book signings. I'm a person that really HATES letting people take pictures of me; not very photogenic. But I'm going to work on that, when I was little (seven or eight years old) I would hide behind my sister when we had to pose for pictures. So this started at a very young age...

                                       THANK YOU MR. ERNST-ULRICH SCHAFER
AND THANK YOU TO ONE OF MY MANY COUSINS; FOR ALLOWING ME TO TAKE THIS PICTURE IN YOUR YARD. TAKEN OUT AT TSOO-YESS BEACH ROAD - BEAUTIFUL AREA!

People watching

While walking the beach with my granddaughter; I watched a grown man park his car, walk down to the beach, take off sandals, and continue on to the water. This man was in his late thirties but at the moment he looked like my granddaughter. He waded in the ocean and turned in circles taking pictures with his CELL PHONE. Studying this man I knew that he renewed his inward peace at that exact moment.
A woman was with her family; a group of five or six. Everyone was very sober faced and looked uptight. A comment was made to this woman, nothing out of the ordinary. She flow off the handle and stomped out of the building cursing; I didn’t know that women my age would have such foul language. It’s always upsetting when you have to deal with people such as this. But truly 98% of the people I meet are very polite.
How do you want to be seen?
Just thinking

Thank you

Throughout the past few weeks many people have inquired about "Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit."
Truly I appreciate the questions; it tells me that people are interested in reading the book.

We are very busy at Big Salmon Fishing Resort due to the U.S. halibut opener. But like a magnet as soon as I walk through the door at home; I check my Email. I find myself disappointed that I haven’t received the electronically formatted book, yet.

My second granddaughter has us all very excited; she should be introducing herself to the family soon. Doctor said, “Any day, now!” So as you may see, I have so much to be happy about. Just yesterday Destiny (my first granddaughter) and I went to the beach and she loved the water pools; discovering “Mussels.” Neah Bay has so much beautiful things that I’m taken aback by; every time I walk the beach.

We have been very busy at work; so I haven't posted so much lately.
Hope you all are enjoying the nice weather :)

Designing the COVER!

Being a creative person; this is the hard part. I have to wait and have NO say in the ARTWORK of making the COVER of the book. I wish I could take part in this “BUT” I’ll have to leave it up to the professionals. I know that it will be GREAT.
I like this picture found on the web! In my book “Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit” you will find that Fawn is tormented and before she finds herself in the spiritual world a CROW crashes into her kitchen window. This sent Fawn over the deep end; she locks herself in her bedroom and doesn’t leave again until her son Joseph finishes the battle.

Design, Layout, and Photo

Wow, I have already received an Email from a design worker from Tate’s Publishing Company!
I had told myself not to expect an Email from the design team until May…After all it’s a competitive market. By the end of this month Joel Uber said that Tate’s Publishing Co. will send me my FIRST PRINTED book! I’ll have to approve that book and then the printing begins.
I’m so excited to hold my first book ever printed!
                                                       God, Please lead the way!

03/30/2012 Layout...next!

Here is what I received today:

Good afternoon! I'm emailing to confirm that I have received your Content Approval Form, and Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit is now ready for layout! Depending on how many schedule spots are available, your designer will contact you to begin the process in either April or May.

During this somewhat quiet period, I encourage you to concentrate on preparing your marketing contact lists—including individuals you would like to invite to your book signings, bookstores, and other venues at which you would like to host your signings, etc.

I am looking forward to seeing this through; now I have to make a list of businesses and individuals that would be involved in future BOOK SIGNINGS. If you are interested in such things please list your name and I will add you to my invite list.

Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit - Editing Is Done!

In the battle, Fawn is rendered unconscious but manages to find herself in the spirit world, able to fight Nicolai Vain's dark power. Will she survive and fight in the spirit realm? Will Joseph and the Star Fire Crew succeed in stopping Nicolai and the Pook Men? Or will the world fall into Nicolai's malevolent hands? Find out in Dawn Lawrence's suspenseful and adventurous story, Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit.

In my book you will read; The Tamanawis sits on the highest plateau of the village waiting like a Black Panther.

Help Comes! Thank You...

Today I'm going to read over the FINAL edited manuscript.

I owe a BIG thank you to one (1) of my BIG sisters Rosie, and one (1) of my MANY nephews Pete.
I had to ask two (2) people to read the manuscript and these two (2) both said, "No problem, I would love to read it."
These two (2) will be analyzing my book and the first people to read "Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit" the new title of my book.

It was hard for me to ask these two (2) family members to do me a favor. And the reality hit me, "Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit" will be published for all people to purchase. Then the anxiety set in - but these two, first two I asked, replied YES it made the anxiety deflate.

THANKS!

Worked Very Hard

Two (2) winters ago I started to write this book and only had time to be creative throughout the winter months. I work very hard at Big Salmon Fishing Resort every summer from April through September helping my husband run his seasonal business. Also I started to cook in the small deli last year to start saving my money needed to publish this book. This book overwhelmingly took charge of everything in my life; I had a great desire to get it out to the public. Two more days and I will receive the edited manuscript…WOW!

My husband would have given me the money but I wanted to do it "myself". My granddaughter just started saying that a lot; she's finding her "INDEPENDENCE".
Today I'm happy!

Cleaning up the manuscript

It was hard to make the alterations that Callie brought to my attention through the first draft. I have enjoyed learning along the way through this process of publishing a book.

Here are Callie's notes to me:
February 29 – I will email the clean manuscript to you, and you will look it over and check all final changes.
March 15 – You will return the manuscript to me. I will implement any changes as necessary and move your manuscript on to our layout/design department.

Reason

Yesterday, I found out that my husband and I will be grandparents to one more granddaughter. She will be our second grandchild and will arrive in June, 2012. These are the reasons I hope that this book will sell many copies. I love my family and hope to continue to financially and physically help out my entire family. Waiting for this book to be published; is almost like having a child, the excitement is somewhat the same. Congratulation to my youngest son and his lovely wife, truly you are blessed. Becoming new parents will change your lives.

VOTE

Here are some "TITLES" that the Tate's Co. came up with...The Battle in Neah Bay was not suitable for a fictional book.

  • Joseph and the Star Fire Crew
  • Legacy of the Star Fire Crew
  • Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit
  • The Tale of the Tamanawis
  • A Lurking Spirit Called Tamanawis
  • Joseph TaHayYasib Miller and the Tamanawis

Please help me make a choice. In the "Comments" just write down the one you like most. I know that you haven't read the book yet but you can read the Blog Posts to get some INSIGHT.

Words of Encouragement

Dawn,
Congratulations on your book! You’ve got a really interesting premise, some really engaging characters, and good visual imagery! Great job so far!
Callie Ferguson
Conceptual Editor

This was sent to me from the conceptual editor along with the manuscript. The editor had highlighted the areas that needed attention, and only I could make the changes. If he/she made the corrections it would be called “Ghost Writing” and that is not allowed. I could hire a “Ghost Writer” but I chose to do the work myself. To tell you the true, I cried after reading the kind words Callie shared with me. It’s a lot of work but very rewarding when an editor tells you your story has engaging characters. If you really desire something in life, just make it happen. If you fail at least you can say you gave it your ALL!

Edit Progress.

Joseph and the entire crew had all been dressed in black. They had been wearing long black coats, and their bootstraps had been laced up tight, ready for battle. As they walked side by side, it was a powerful sight. They walked together into the unknown, their black leather jackets swaying back and forth. Nobody remembered it was Joseph's birthday!

This is a portion of my book; you will find it at the ending.

Today I finished reading my edited manuscript that was sent back to me just days ago. I'm going to send it back to the company after I read it one more time. Then it goes through the processing (the book becomes a book). I'm so excited and can't wait the hold my first copy.

A Part of The Book...

“My mother Yabis*Tee was a good woman in this community. She didn’t have much too give in riches. But if someone in the community was sick, she helped take care of them. Or if a family needed food, she would make extra food to share. So as you may see … she was a Good Samaritan that lived here in Neah Bay.”

Email progress

Things are coming together! Just like this little piece of driftwood found on the Tsoo-Yess beach: Beautiful things take time.
My editor Callie Emailed me today and asked for pictures, endorsements, forewords, and anything that I may have forgotten. Well I sent only one picture today along with a letter in detail about my book being a FICTIONAL BOOK. " Joseph and the Tamanawis Spirit " was created by Dawn Lawrence: characters and myths involved were created by me and me alone. True legends would have to be sought elsewhere.
It was good to get an Email from the Editor, Today Is a good DAY!
